Collaboration Meeting
It's a Saturday. United beat Birmingham 5-0 today. Berbatov scored a hat-trick. I'm pleased about that but I'm missed the game. Why? I try not to miss any United matches. Today I'm at Fermilab for Day Two of the three day NOvA Collaboration meeting. I spent most of the morning adding the finishing touches to my talk for the Calibration session. I was up until 5 am running reconstruction code in order to complement my presentation just before lunch. I reported on results of looking at the NOvA data with a cosmic ray tracker and presented the first preliminary cosmic ray rates. Now I'm listening to the plenary talks on WLS fibres, PVC and other detector material components. It's the collaboration dinner tonight. Good time for all of is physicists to bang our heads together to work out how on earth we are going to be able to watch 'Da Bears!' NFL divisional conference playoff game tomorrow at 2pm when we're supposed to be running through a huge transformation of the software framework!

My First Blog
See here we are...I've succumbed to the 'net and all it offers, and decided to start my own blog.
Let me introduce myself briefly. I am a Neutrino Physics Postdoctoral Researcher for Iowa State University but originally herald from the plush green, rolly hills backdrop that is Wensleydale! I work at Fermilab on the NOvA and LBNE projects so don't actually go to Iowa very often. I will try to keep this blog updated with thoughts and news on all things that interest me. Perhaps the blog is another reason for me to procrastinate with all the free time I have inherited now that my PhD thesis has been submitted. The point of the blog will be for me to inform folks (who care) about my endeavours in the US and to rant and rave on all things sport - not exclusively football! I might throw in a few comments related to Life, but I suppose the sport covers that for me. I will probably try to write a short congratulatory post to the England cricket team on retaining The Ashes series.
I'm even on Twitter (daviesga) and have my own Twine. So you should be able to keep up with me.
I'll be adding to my profile so you know where I'm coming from soon. But for now I really have to get to work. First things first, I've gotta get Xubuntu to install as a guest OS on VirtualBox. An informational blog of my success or failure may follow if I'm not too beaten.
